Sheera – sweet dish

Serves two
Preparation time: 8 minutes

Ingredients
3 spoons rava
3/4 spoon ghee
4 spoons sugar
1/2 spoon jaggery
water - double the quantity of rava

Method
In a dry vessel, roast rava. Add ghee after a minute. Stir continuously. On low flame, roast rava until it turns golden brown.
Add water, sugar, and then jaggery.
Stir continuously.
When rava absorbs water and becomes a bit bigger (the size of each rava particle increases), sheera is ready to eat.

Variations
  • Add raisins when you add water to rava.
  • You can offer sheera as prasad to the divine. Some people like to put banana and nuts, such as roasted cashew and almonds in the prasad. Adding banana, reduces the shelf life of sheera.

After adding water into roasted rava, let the mixture cook for 2-3 minutes, and then add sugar/jaggery.
Note: If you immediately add sugar/jaggery in the mixture, it will not be aborbed and you will find very small particles of sugar when you eat sheera.
